Will Google’s new fav icon be another “New Coca Cola”?
Google’s new fav icon was released on May 30, 2008. The icon changes from a big “G” to a little “g” and this minor change was noticed quickly by people. You can see the new fav icon in the URL address bar, favorite pages on most browsers. You can see the examples of old and new fav icon as follows :
Old fav icon:

new fav icon:

If you have bookmark the Google page, you can also see it:

To directly see the new icon, you can use the URL: http://google.com/favicon.ico.
But not all the Google pages use this new icon, for example, Google docs still uses icon corresponding to word, PowerPoint and Excel.
To this new fav icon, people have different responding. Many people admit that they can’t get used to this fav icon right now. The old big “G” icon has been set in mind already and now it is difficult to find Google pages from the many pages opened. The little “g” icon looks smart, but to some people, it is also weakness looking. Many scrupulous people find that there is a sharp point on top right of the “g” which looks like a “devil” sign.
Perhaps we need time to accept this new icon. In my opinion, it looks smart and beautiful. To get used to it is only a matter of time, but I also have to admit that “G” is better consistent with the Google because the first letter is the same.
Whether this new icon is a success or failure is also a matter of time, will the new icon be another “new Coca Cola”?
